A 34-year-old man is in critical condition in a Dublin hospital after being attacked and brutally beaten by a group of inmates from Mountjoy Prison.
The inmate was attacked in his cell around 6pm last night and suffered serious head injuries.
He was taken to Hospital Mater, where he is in intensive care.
Gardaí suspect the attack was ordered by a criminal outside prison.
Mountjoy’s cell and landing pad where the inmate was attacked remains closed today for forensic examination.
