34-yr-old Polish man, Kamil Szymczak accused of trying to forcibly remove 16-yr-old girl’s undergarments from behind

Kamil Szymczak has been charged with the sexual assault of a 16-yr-old girl in Fermoy on Monday. He appeared before Mallow District Court, charged with an offence contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act 1990.

According to the Irish Examiner, the sexual assault is alleged to have taken place at Chapel Hill in Fermoy at 1.20pm on Monday.

The accused man’s solicitor Ciaran O’Keeffe asked Detective Garda Forsythe if the allegation against his client could be classed as a stupid incident and at the lower end of the scale.

Detective Garda Forsythe said he could not comment.

Judge Gabbett told solicitor Mr O’Keeffe that the allegation against the accused was that he had approached the girl from behind and had triedto forcibly remove the girl’s undergarments.

According to the Examiner, the judge added: “I don’t see how you could not see that as serious?”
Bail was applied for but denied and the accused has been granted free legal aid.

A Polish translator accompanied theaccused in court. It is not known how long the accused has resided in Ireland.

This is the second random sexual assault on females within four months in the small rural town that boasts having 25 different nationalities residing there.

Last November we reported on a sexual assault on a woman who was out walking her dog in the small rural town of Fermoy, Co. Cork.

A Married Moldovan National, with children living in Fermoy was later charged with sexual assault.
