Following the death of a 4-yr-old child in a Manchester home fire, a lady has been detained on suspicion of arson, reports Sky.
According to Greater Manchester Police, emergency personnel arrived to the scene of the incident at around 12:35 p.m. today. After being rescued from the Gateshead Close residence, a girl was gravely injured.
A police spokesperson said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, the girl died from her injuries in hospital a short time after,” reports Sky.
On suspicion of arson with intent to harm life, a 44-year-old woman has been taken into custody.
The youngster knows her, and authorities say there is no broader threat to the neighbourhood, reports Sky.
As the entire facts are being investigated by expert investigators, a scene is still in place surrounding Gateshead Close.
Charlotte Whalley, a detective chief inspector of the force’s major incident squad, said: “This awful incident has seen the tragic death of a young girl, and I would like to send my condolences to her friends and family. Numerous emergency services attended the scene and all did their utmost best to save her,” reports Sky.
The police are “fully investigating all circumstances of the fire and will leave no stone unturned as we carry out this work,” she stated.
