400 schools will not re-open tomorrow, leaving up to 200,000 pupils in limbo

Last-minute talks between the Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland (ASTI) and the Department of Education have broken down, which means that 400 secondary schools will not re-open tomorrow.

This effectively means that about 200,000 pupils will have to stay home tomorrow.

It is unclear when, or if, secondary schools will reopen again.

The row centers around lost emoluments on substitution and supervision duties.
