42-yr-old man arrested in connection with a drone delivering drugs to prison

A man was detained by Gardaí for allegedly supplying narcotics to prisoners, reports Breaking News.

After searching a house in west Dublin on Friday, police found €180,000 in cash, multiple cell phones, and a luxury watch worth €10,000.

At the site, a 42-year-old male was taken into custody. He was still being held on Saturday.

The operation follows the February 12th capture of a drone and a significant amount of diamorphine that was supposed to be delivered to a jail in west Dublin, reports Breaking News.

According to Gardaí, these incidences are a part of Operation Tara, a local operation that aims to stop narcotics being supplied into Wheatfield and Cloverhill Prisons.

Preventing contraband from entering prisons is a top concern, according to a statement released by the Irish Prison Service.

“The Irish Prison Service has committed to continuing to invest in new technologies and measures to support our efforts to keep contraband out of prisons. Prison staff have increased the use of random and intelligence led cell searches on a daily basis. Our Canine Unit carry out searches around the prisons, including a greater focus on searching deliveries into prisons,” it said, reports Breaking News.
