44% of people say they’d change their job if they could work from home even if it means a reduction in pay

The fourth annual National Remote Work Survey found that 44% of workers would change jobs, even if it meant a pay cut, if it weren’t easier for them to work remotely, reports RTE.

That’s an increase from the same results in last year’s survey, where 30% of respondents said they would change jobs to meet their remote work needs, even if it meant taking a pay cut.

In this year’s survey, 55% of respondents indicated that they would not make their remote/hybrid work choices easier, even if it meant fewer advancement opportunities.

It has also increased compared to last year.

In late September and early October, researchers from the University of Galway and the Western Development Commission collected feedback from nearly 6,000 respondents about their remote working experiences.

The survey found that 92% of respondents indicated that remote/hybrid work would be a key factor in their decision to change employers.

“Our previous annual surveys showed the growing appetite for remote or hybrid working and the 2023 survey provides evidence of this sustained trend,” said Professor Alma McCarthy, Professor of Public Sector Management and Dean of JE Cairnes School of Business and Economics at University of Galway, reports RTE.

“For those who can work remotely or hybrid for at least some of the time, being able to do so now plays a critical role in employer and job choice,” Professor McCarthy said, reports RTE.

59% of respondents said they currently work hybrid (sometimes remotely, sometimes on-site), 38% work entirely remotely, and only 3% work entirely on-site.

Most hybrid workers work remotely from home.

A small portion works remotely, both at home, at the centre and customer premises.

The most popular working days in the office are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, reports RTE.
