47-yr-old man charged with defacing Luke Kelly statue in Dublin

A man has been charged with defacing the Luke Kelly statue in Dublin’s north inner city.

According to RTE, Michael Dunne, 47, was arrested on Monday afternoon and gave no reply as he was read his charges in the Dublin District Court.

The Judge granted him a bail bond of 200 Euro, and Garda David Kelly gave evidence to the court.

RTE reports that Mr Dunne was told to stay away from the Sheriff Street area where the crime took place, and to sign in three times a day at Store Street Garda station.

The statue of the iconic Dubliners singer has been vandalised seven times in recent months. Many locals now want it either risen or moved to another location.
