A 6.4-magnitude quake has hit just off the Japanese coast.
The epicenter was located 24 miles deep, 116km south-southeast of the Kagoshima area.
Local authorities have so far ruled out the possibility of a tsunami.
Seismic activity is relatively common in Japan, due to its geographic location in the Pacific Ring of Fire.
