63-yr-old thug in Cork pleads guilty to pouring boiling water over his own wife and hitting her with hammer

In May, a 63-year-old man who admitted to splashing his wife with boiling water and then striking her with a claw hammer will be jailed, reports Breaking News.

Noel Twomey, of Carbery Grove, Knocknaheeny, Cork, entered a guilty plea to two charges of assault causing injury to his wife Jackie on January 15, 2024, when he appeared in Cork Circuit Criminal Court on Wednesday.

He was charged with one count of splashing his wife with hot water and another count of striking her with a claw hammer, reports Breaking News.

Seamus Roche SC, the defence attorney, requested that the case be postponed. Reports on Mr. Twomey’s health and mental state are still pending.

Judge Helen Boyle placed Mr. Twomey under remand so he may appear in court on May 8th for sentence.

The sentencing hearing will include a victim impact statement, reports Breaking News.

In the meanwhile, Cork District Court previously heard an overview of the case against Mr. Twomey.

According to Detective Garda Brian Murphy, Mr. Twomey waved down a police car and was taken into custody near Bakers Road in Gurranabraher, Cork, at 5 a.m. on January 15, 2024, reports Breaking News.

Given the gravity of the offence, Det Garda Murphy had previously opposed the granting of bail in this case.

“She (Jackie Twomey) went to sleep in the safety of her own bed. Noel Twomey made the very conscious decision to boil a pot of water and retrieve a claw hammer from the toolbox,” he said, reports Breaking News.

“He has stated that he paced the apartment ten to twenty times considering would he carry out his actions. He then entered his bedroom where his wife slept and attacked her in a cowardly fashion as she lay asleep. He showed no remorse and never enquired about his wife’s condition. He comes across as a very controlling individual. His actions were very disturbing and sinister,” reports Breaking News.

After a night out, Mrs. Twomey returned home in the early hours of January 15, 2024, according to Det Garda Murphy.

“She had been out with family members that night. Her husband of nearly 40 years was at home and was still awake in the sitting room when she returned at approximately 3.30am. He later described her movements in detail after he obsessed with the CCTV system that was on the exterior of the property. Jackie Twomey later went to bed and fell asleep. Noel Twomey then proceeded to fill a pot of water on the stove and armed himself with a claw hammer from a toolbox,” reports Breaking News.
