A 66-yr-old man convicted of murdering a defenceless 8-yr-old girl in the United States in 1984 has been executed by lethal injection in Arizona.
Frank Atwood was executed at 10:16am at the Arizona State Prison in Florence, Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement.
Atwood was convicted in 1987 of kidnapping Vicki Lynne Hoskinson while she was riding a bicycle in Tucson, Arizona. The little girl had dropped a birthday card in a mailbox and was never seen again until her body was found in the desert seven months later.
Atwood had to choose between lethal injection and the gas chamber, but he refused to choose.
Lethal injection is the state’s standard method of execution if an inmate does not choose it.
The thug had become a Christian in jail and said that he prayed for his mercy and everyone’s mercy before he was put to death.
It’s understood that Atwood had a conviction from 1975 for an assault on a child under the age of 14.
Atwood’s execution was Arizona’s second in the past month.
