Lured by the open boarders policies and social benefits of Western European nations, the migrants who sadly drowned off the coast of Italy each paid as much as €8,000 to human traffickers to buy their ticket for their ill fated journey across the Mediterranean.

Italian authorities have announced that 67 people are confirmed dead, 16 of whom were children after the vessel smuggling the migrants sunk off the coast of Steccato di Cutro in south-eastern Italy.

The sailboat had come from Turkey, where millions of migrants are still living in tent cities with Italian authorities identifying a Turkish national and two Pakistanis as being suspected of being people smugglers connected to the tragedy, Il Giornale reports.

While Western European countries such as Ireland maintain policies of open boarders with guarantees of accommodation and social welfare for those claiming asylum, the vile business of people trafficking will continue to flourish, with more tragedies such as this sure to take place.
