Seven hundred and fifty US troops have been deployed to the Middle East, following the recent attack on the US embassy in Baghdad.
It is also understood that elements of the elite 82nd Airborne Division may be deployed to the region over the coming days.
US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the assault on the embassy, and has asked Iraqi authorities to do more to protect US interests in the region.
