80,000 children left homeless from Beirut blast as irate protestors take to streets

The devastating explosion that rocked Beirut on Tuesday has left up 300,000 people homeless, 80,000 of whom are children.

On Friday, the death toll was revised up again to at least 157 while over 5000 have suffered minor to serious injuries.

However, the rolling shocking wave from the detonation of more that 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, has left around 12% of the Lebanese capital’s population unable to return to their homes that were either levelled or suffered structural damage UNICEF has reported.
Lebanese authorities have detained 16 port officials so far as a criminal probe into the explosion kicks into high gear in a country already languishing under the weight of a sever economic crisis, the covid-19 virus and intense discontent among its population.
To add to the country’s woes, there has also been social unrest as irate protestors have taken to the streets of Beirut in the nights following the explosion to express their fury at the government for having allowed this catastrophe.
