A group of related Roma gypsy boys have been spared jail after the viciously beat and gangraped an 18-year-old girl in an attack which took place in July, 2019 in the German city of Muelheim.
According to the Sun, the five boys, all aged between 12 and 14 at the time of the rape, lay in wait a for their victim in a playground, the mentally disabled teen girl was at one time a girlfriend to one of the 14-year-old rapists.
The girl and her boyfriend had consensual sex before the rest of the gang appeared and then dragged her to nearby bushes where she was beaten and sexually assaulted by all of them and raped by three of the four.
The Sun reports that the court heard that the mentally challenged teenage girl was “abused in various ways”, although the police did not share details publicly.
Only the intervention of an elderly passer-by caused the boys to flee.
All the rapists, bar the 12-year-old, were handed down suspended sentences of between 18 months and two years.
The case is reminiscent of another attack in which another group of Roma teens, who originated in same area of Bulgaria as this group of rapists, assaulted, beat and gang raped a 13-year-old girl in Velbert, a town near Mulheim.
Those rapists were eventually jailed but for only between nine months and four years.
