A day to remember in Dublin as over 20,000 people take part in SSE Airtricty Dublin City Marathon




It was a day to remember at the SSE Airtricty Dublin City Marathon today as a staggering 20,000 took the streets of the capital to run the grueling course all in the air of a good cause.

The marathon which got underway at 9am this morning seen a large crowd descend on Dublin to take part in the 26.2 mile event which was eventually won by Kenya’s Bernard Rotich.

Mr Rotich who came out on top came across the line in a time of 2.15.52, to take home the prestigious medal which is handed out by Dublin’s Lord Mayor.

Meanhile Ukraine’s Nataliya Lehonkova was the first woman to cross the line in a time of 2.28.57.

In a day that seen everyone lace up their jogging shoes all in the aid of a number of charities, there was a vast display on offer as a number took part in array of costumes that really lit up the event for all those involved.

Speaking about the event a Dublin City Council spokesman said it really is delight to see so many people take part this year.

They added that it was a great achievement for all those involved as the turnout continues to grow each year and this year was no exception as many of those involved took part for a number of great causes.
