A group of Irish students stranded in the Belgian capital of Brussels have made a heartfelt appeal to Aer Lingus in order to get home to Cork.

The UCC students are reportedly stuck in the Belgian capital after the recent terrorist attacks shook the city to standstill with its Airport and public transport systems being shut down due to heightened security checks.

The countries transport minister say that all flights in and out of Brussels have been cancelled and flights currently en route to Belgium have been diverted.

The resulting cancellations have left the UCC students with no choice to appeal for help from Aer Lingus. The students have since written a post on the Irish Airliners Facebook page that has been shared almost 3K times.

The post, from Kate Creedon, reads:
Hello, we are a group of 30 students from UCC in cork who are stuck in Brussels at the moment. We are originally meant to be flying out of Brussels airport at 17.10 on Thursday the 24th but we are extremely worried and concerned for our own Saftey.

Our college department are doing everything they can to try get us home as early as possible but we have been making no progress. We are willing to travel to another airport if it means we get home safe tomorrow.

I would really appreciate if you could give me any information at all on the best way for us to get out of here or any alternative ways to get us back to Ireland as soon as possible.

Thanks

It is not yet known if the Airliner has responded to the stranded students.
