According to the Department of Health’s Minister of State, more Gazan youngsters in need of medical care are anticipated to arrive in Ireland “very shortly,” reports RTE.
More Gazan youngsters are anticipated to arrive “on a case-by-case basis depending on the capacity we have,” according to Mary Butler.
She stated that the health system must “get through our own waiting list” before accepting children with specialised orthopaedic requirements since “we don’t have the capacity there ourselves,” reports RTE.
She stated that each Gazan kid will be “subject to the type of care that they need and the capacity that we have” during her appearance on RTÉ’s Saturday with Colm Ó Mongáin.
Her remarks come after a similar operation was carried out in December, when eight youngsters were medically evacuated to Ireland for medical treatment together with eight caretakers and eleven siblings.
The children’s “various health needs, including treatment for cancer, haemodialysis, and a range of conditions” are being addressed by Ms. Butler, reports RTE.
“Some of the children are receiving outpatient treatment but there are some of them that need inpatient treatment,” she stated, reports RTE.
“They also need supports in relation to therapeutic and psycho-social care after the trauma that they had been through,” she stated, reports RTE.
“Only the tip of the iceberg” is how she put the eight kids.
“I hope so” was Ms. Butler’s response when asked if the Gaza truce would make the trip easier than it would have been in December, reports RTE.
