A Vietnamese priest has been arrested in Lourdes for flying a drone near the Grotto

French police arrested a Vietenemise priest this week after he was caught on CCTV flying his drone capturing beautiful images of the Grotto in Lourdes.

The police arrived at the priest’s hotel the day before he was due to fly back to Vietnam.

The priest was arrested and was taken by police to the town’s police station and was questioned over his use of the drone in the Sanctuary.

It’s understood that the priest was completely unaware of France’s very strict drone laws – one of the strictest in the world.

Drone laws in France in include the prevention of flying in towns, religious areas, over neighbours’ houses or over 100 metres.

The priest was released without charge but the incident has been a warning to others not to use drones in the Domain of Lourdes and especially near the Grotto area.
