A woman proclaiming to be a ‘Psychic medium’ denies deceiving two siblings by telling them their dead father wanted them to give her €10,200

A home carer and self-proclaimed psychic has refused to fleece two sisters of €10,200 by telling them their late father asked them to give her the money, reports The Mirror.

Debbie Paget of Knoveh Court, Ballymun, Dublin, pleaded not guilty at the Criminal Circuit Court in Dublin to two offenses of dishonest misrepresentation in which James Byrne and Maria Byrne were tricked into giving two sums of money totalling €10,200.

Giving evidence before the jury today, James Byrne told prosecutor Oisin Clarke BL that he, his sister Maria and his mother lived together on Glenduibh Road, Cabrach, Dublin. He said Ms Paget was a housekeeper for a neighbor and that’s how they met her.

He once said that Ms. Paget was invited to “a reading” and he thought he was lucky and that he was finding out about his future.

He said Miss Paget told him that his late brother or father could contact him during the session during the reading, and told the jury: ““I said to myself, could this be true; but I never felt anything”, reports The Mirror.

He said Ms Paget started talking about my father and then said: “Your father said you are to give me €10,000,” reports The Mirror.

Asked why he gave her the money, Mr Bynre told the jury: “I believed my father told her to tell me to give her the money, that’s what I believed”, reports The Mirror.

His sister testified that she gave €200 to Ms Paget after the defendant told her during “a reading” that her late father had communicated with her and said Ms Byrne should give her €200.

The siblings first complained to the woman’s employer and later to the Gardai.

When questioned, Ms Paget told gardaí that she was publicly known as a “psychic medium”, meaning she could “see beyond the veil” and communicate with the dead.

She said she has been offering this service to people for 40 years and she had “never charged a penny,” reports The Mirror.

“Are you winding me up? 10,000 for a reading? That’s a lie…is this a joke?” she told gardai, reports The Mirror.
