The latest homelessness figures show that 8,500 people (3,500 of whom are children) are officially listed as homeless, just seven days before Christmas.
The homelessness crisis has steadily worsened over the last 12 months, with no sign of stopping anytime soon.
To compound the problem, there are almost 100,000 people waiting on social housing.
The Government intends to alleviate the issue by providing 200 beds and ‘housing’ as many rough sleepers as possible inside Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.
