Sinn Féin leader and Louth TD Gerry Adams has recently stated that he does not believe that anyone involved in the IRA are criminals.

Mr Adams comments come in the wake of his parties recent criticism from opposition TD’s, who have condemned Sinn Fein for continuously defending recently convicted tax evader Thomas “Slab” Murphy by calling him a “good Republican”.

Mr Adams said that Mr Murphy will continue to reject the recent claims of fraud and corruption and he will continue to so, the Sinn Fein leader also said he could not say whether or not the recent ruling passed down by the Supreme Court to Mr Murphy was acceptable.

Mr Adams told reporters: “Do I think that judges can’t make mistakes? No I don’t, I think judges can make mistakes and I think that the certainty for citizens is that we are tried by our peers. “That is the safest process, and juries can make mistakes as well, but that is the safest process.”

Before adding: “I don’t believe that people who were involved in the IRA, if he was involved in the IRA, are criminals.”
