Afghan earthquake death toll at least 1,000, people and will possibly increase over the coming days

As if things weren’t bad enough for Afghanistan after Joe Biden’s disgraceful and woeful withdrawal of troops last Autumn, the country was hit with a major earthquake overnight.

The death toll in an earthquake in Afghanistan has reached 1,000, civil defence officials said, with more than 600 injured, and that number is expected to rise as reports come in from remote mountain villages.

A large number of houses were reduced to rubble and bodies covered in blankets lay on the ground, Afghan media footage showed.

Helicopters were used in the rescue effort to reach the wounded and transport medical supplies and food, an Interior Ministry official said.

The earthquake is the deadliest to hit Afghanistan since 2002.

It struck about 44 meters from the southeastern city of Khost, near the border with Pakistan, the United States Geological Survey (USGC) said.

Civil defense officials said at least 1,000 people were killed and 600 wounded. However, local authorities estimate that the number of injured is higher.
