‘African Plume’ heatwave for Ireland in August gets dashed by Met Eireann

Remember the heatwave? Less than a month ago we were basking in sunshine that was fit for the South of France. Now, it feels like winter has arrived early.

The plume of hot air coming from Africa and heading north in combination with high pressure from the Azores could have have given the Irish another 30C+ heatwave this month, according to the Mirror.

However, Met Eireann have posted an update on it’s website: “During the middle of the month (August) we will have more of an easterly or northeasterly influence on our weather which brings us slightly warmer than normal conditions and light winds.

“Rainfall amounts will be near average as would expect afternoon showers in daytime heating.”
