Alan Kelly: There’s 3 types of Irish Water payers – those who pay, think they can’t pay and those who just won’t pay

The government have unveiled what they hope to be the final straw to quench the public’s anger in relation to Irish Water. They have introduced a cap on the charges, scrap Irish Water worker bonuses, and have dropped the price of a call-out fix. But is all that enough?

The Minister for Environment, Alan Kelly, said today that there are 3 types of Irish Water payers:
1) Those who pay
2) Those who think they can’t pay
3) Those who won’t pay

Social Media is rampant with comments such as today’s developments being nothing other than an arrogant PR Stunt.

Households that register with Irish Water will get a €100 Water Conservation Grant each year, which will see charges capped for a single adult household at €60 and for others at €160 until at least January 1st 2019. Also, there will be no need to supply a PPS number.

It remains to be seen whether this will affect the expected 150,000 expected on the streets in water charges protests on December 10th.
