Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter has called for the immediate publication of the O’Higgins report into alleged Garda malpractice in the Cavan-Monaghan division.
The final report of the Commission investigates claims by whistleblower Sergeant Maurice McCabe, was received by the Justice Minister on Monday.
The Attorney General, Máire Whelan, has been asked to clear the report to allow for its publication.
Alan Shatter believes the O’Higgins Report should be published today and without delay.
“The draft report as prepared would have been furnished to all individuals to whom content was relevant to give them an opportunity to make their observations on it,” he said.
“So my view really is quite simple – it seems that bits of it are now appearing in public.
“I think the truth should be known, there’s an obligation on the Minister to publish the report as soon as possible, there’s no legal impediment to its immediate publication and I believe it should be published today.”
