The European parliament are understood to backing plans to put calorie details on the labels of alcoholic drinks.
The proposals come after there were strong calls from MEP’s for a new EU alcohol strategy from early next year. It is also understood the European parliament are considering labelling to discourage drink driving and drinking while pregnant. The move will follow changes that were put place in 2011, were European institutions passed legislation that required food and soft drinks, including fruit juice and milk, to label nutritional information and ingredients.
However, alcoholic beverages were exempt.
