AIB have issued a warning to their customers after a number of customers have been targeted by a phone scam.
It is understood that a number of customers have received phone calls from fraudsters pretending to be from a mobile/telephone or broadband company asking for personal details.
The sophisticated scam tricks customers into sharing details from a code reader and they also ask people to hand over details so they can remotely control their PC.
In a statement released on their website AIB said: “Callers will attempt to trick you into giving them your banking or card credentials and provide codes from your Card Reader, in order to access your online banking and make fraudulent payments.”
“You may be asked to allow the caller to take remote control of your PC in order to “assist” you, however this could allow the fraudster to show you fraudulent screens.”
“The callers are professional and will be able to transfer you to their “supervisor” should you request this. They sound genuine.”
The bank have warned customers if they receive a call to contact the bank immediately.
