Gardaí have issued a warning to the public to avoid any COVID-19 scams.
It is understood the warning comes amid fears that fraudsters could use phishing, social engineering or fraudulent selling scams to trick the general public.
Gardai are advising people not to open any suspicious SMS, WhatsApp or email messages that claim to have attachments on how to protect yourself and others from the virus.
They also warn that people should ignore any message that asks for personal details.
It is believed that Gardai are aware that some fraudsters will also try to convince the general public into making a donation for a non existent charitable cause.
They are also advising the public to be careful about bogus messages claiming to sell products that help combat the spread of the virus.
