All new cars will be fitted with speed limiter technology from 2022 onwards under proposed new EU laws

All new vehicles sold in the EU will be required to be fitted with new safety equipment including speed limiters from 2022 onwards.

Under the new laws all vehicles including cars, buses, vans, lorries and motorcycles must be fitted with Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) systems which will prevent motorists from breaking the speed limit.

It is understood the new speed sensors will use a GPS system that will determine the exact speed limit in the area a motorist is travelling in, and therefore it will restrict a driver from breaking it.

The proposed new laws which have recieved major backing from MEP’s and motorisrs across the EU, come as the European Parliament are looking at new and advanced technologies that will assist in cutting the number of road deaths across the entire continent.

The new laws will also see all vehicles fitted with Automated Emergency Braking (AEB) which will have pedestrian and cyclist detection, whist Lane Keep Assistance (LKA), will also be a mandatory requirement for all new vehicles entering the market.

There will also be new technology fitted to buses and lorries that will allow drivers to see all other motorists and cyclists around there vehicle whilst driving.
