Students in Chicago are used to snow days, but the kids in one school got a day off as part of a mass vaccination campaign to jab children as young as 5 years of age.
At least 20 schools have served as vaccination centres as city officials have urged residents to vaccinate themselves and their children and receive booster doses if they are eligible. City workers also benefited on Friday from two hours of paid vacation to get vaccinated.
The first full week of vaccinations has gone “beautifully,” says Dr. Allison Arwady, Chicago’s public health commissioner with no side effects reported except for a few sore arms, but many parents are very reluctant to let their loved ones get the jab.
