The country’major planning authority An Bord Pleanála has hit back at claims made by the Central Statistics Office who say there has been a major upturn in the economy.

The planning authority believe the CSO’s statistics are highly inaccurate as their own figures suggest otherwise. An Bord Pleanála say they have not yet any significant boost in the economy, because they have not seen any increase in planning appeals. Although the Central Statistics Office have said there has been a massive increase in planning approvals for homes in the second quarter of this year. However the agency deny such claims stating that there has been no change as the number of cases last year was virtually unchanged compared to the year 2013.

According to its annual report the planning agency claim that there is still a significantly low level of activity in the construction and development sectors. They also say, whilst there has been some reports of an upturn in the economy, the usual increase in planning appeals going to An Bord Pleanála has yet to materialise.
