An investigation is being carried out into the death of a Carlow woman minutes after giving birth

36 year old Tracey Fitzpatrick from Carlow died in St Luke’s Hospital, Co Kilkenny on Easter Monday.

Her baby boy, called Max was born healthy yet his mother passed away minutes after giving birth.

The young woman was due to get surgery and was being taken into the theatre when she died.

This baby was the mother’s third child and spokesperson from St Luke’s Hospital stated that “the staff and management of St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny are currently focused on supporting the family at this very sad time”

It was also reported that “a full investigation” was to follow an “internal review”.

Ms Fitzpatrick had been married just 17 months ago to her husband Bernard and has two boys. The family live in Templepeter, Co Carlow.
