A statutory order has been signed to enable Irish Water to check and verify customers’ addresses with An Post. Such move will ensure that bills are sent to the correct person.

The order was signed into law last Tuesday by the Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly, and such rule is allowed under the Water Services Act 2013, which specifies the statutory powers at Irish Water’s disposal to request both customers and certain state and private bodies to provide it with information to develop an accurate database and billing system.

Latest figures show that 988,000 households have signed up to Irish Water.

A mass demonstration is scheduled in Dublin for this Saturday, starting at 1pm.
