An Post has delivered nearly 4,000 mass cards from people in Ireland offering their condolences on the passing of Pope Francis to the Vatican, reports RTE.
The cards were sent without any postage cost.
Ireland’s Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Luis Mariano Montemayor, called An Post’s gesture “beautiful”, reports RTE.
“They are more than a gesture of remembrance, they are a sign of attachment to a person who had a special place in many Irish hearts,” he said, reports RTE.
“They carry with them your prayers for Pope Francis, but they carry too your love and appreciation of what he meant in your lives,” reports RTE.
A representative for An Post stated that they have coordinated with the Vatican’s postal service to inform them that the bundle of cards is on its way.
“So many customers were pleased to be able to express their sympathy and respect for the late Pope Francis and know that their cards will be delivered safely,” the spokesperson said, reports RTE.
“We’ve even received cards from across the world to be included in the despatch from Ireland,” reports RTE.
