The father of three young children who were killed by their mother has spoken about how he has come to the decision to divorce her.

The Irish Mirror has reported on Andrew McGinley’s interview with The Star where he spoke about how he is afraid that a divorce would leave him at the risk of losing the home where he lived with his wife and children before the tragedy occurred.

Mr. McGinley’s wife Deirdre is currently in the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.  She was found not guilty of the murders of Conor, 9, Darragh, 7 and Carla, 3, by reason of insanity.  Mr. McGinley says that she is refusing to see him.

In the interview he spoke about how he fears that the divorce may prompt his wife to look for half of the house and that this would mean he would have to sell it, something that frightens him as it is the home where he has memories of his children, saying “I may have to sell the house if that is contested, which saddens me.  If she is looking for half the house then I may have to sell the house”.

He also said that if he was in Deirdre’s position then he would hand the house over with no argument over it, saying “I know I would if the shoe was on the other foot, I would.  I’d be going: there’s the keys”.
