Anger at government suggesting we “open our homes” as many Irish struggle to find affordable homes for ourselves and our families




Ireland is set to take in 100,000 Ukrainian refugees with the government asking the Irish public to open their doors to take them in.

The response from our readers to his call to action was mixed and brought out much anger. The anger was not levelled at the Ukrainians, but at Coveney and his coalition government for not providing affordable rents and starter homes for our own people.

We would now like to assess this issue in a little more detail and ask for your assistance to help us all understand the real issues the Irish community are experiencing in the private rental market, security of tenure and in finding a starter home.
