It has been another successful day for Irish boxing as Joe Ward has taken the gold medal at the European Championships’ in Bulgaria this evening.
Ward’s win comes after fellow Irishman Michael Conlan took gold in his bantam weight bout earlier this afternoon. Ward from Co Westmeath took the lightweight gold medal after defeating his Dutch opponent Peter Mullinberg by three consecutive round wins.
The win caps off remarkable day for Irish boxing as both boxers will now turn their attention to the Olympic games in Rio next year.
