Gardai confirmed this afternoon that they had upgraded the suspicious death of 90-yr-old Paddy Lyons in Waterford to murder.
Just before 6pm this evening, they confirmed that a man in his 20s had been arrested in connection to the elderly gentleman’s murder.
Locals are said to be devastated by the murder in their small community of just 320 people. Paddy is said to have been well known and liked and “always had a word for everyone”.
An avid reader, Paddy is said to have been very interested in current affairs and politics in general. He had been described as “gentleman” and someone who “would do you a good turn”.
Paddy tragically is said to have a received “bad injuries” prior to being murdered with speculation that he disgracefully took a beaten before being murdered and left slumping in his chair.
His neighbour and carer found him Saturday in his armchair and emergency services were called to the scene along with a local priest.
