The technology giant firm Apple has just received permission from An Bord Pleanála to begin construction of a 24,500 square metre data centre in the outskirts of Galway. The facility will help run online services such as the iTunes store, App store, and Siri.
The new complex will be sited on a 197-hectare site near Athenry, and will include a data centre, an administration building and associated works. An estimated 300 people will be employed during the construction phase, and 150 will have permanent jobs after.
Construction work is expected to begin towards the end of this year.
