Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner escaped unharmed after a man shot her with a loaded gun that fired just inches from her head.
The attack, which the economy minister described as an assassination, comes at a time of heightened political and social tensions in Argentina.
It happened as Ms. Fernández de Kirchner got out of a car in front of her home in Buenos Aires, where hundreds of people had gathered.
Video footage showed a man pointing a gun at his temple.
