ASGI call on the Government to issue 16.5% pay restoration – or else there will be industrial action

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (ASGI) have confirmed they have submitted a proposal to the Government asking for 16.5% pay restoration claim.

The news comes after a number of senior AGSI officials met Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald last night to begin negotiations on the recent pay dispute.

According to ASGI President Antoinette Cunningham there has been a “frank exchange of views” with the minister, Ms Cunningham further explained: “We are happy that we could articulate the concerns of our members.”

“We also believe the Minister has a better understanding of our concerns following a meeting with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform last week.”

The latest submission by the ASGI has not yet been accepted the Minister for Justice Fitzgerald, said any future agreement would be ‘an all-Government’ decision.

However Ms Cunningham said if the pay proposal is not accepted the scheduled strike action this November will go ahead as planned.
