At least 12 people have died, including four children, after a blaze ripped through an apartment block in the Bronx district of New York.
Up to 160 firefighters fought the blaze for several hours.
It is understood that the fire may have started accidentally in the first floor of the building. Some reports say that a child playing with a stove may have been the cause.
This is the deadliest fire in New York since 1990, when an arson attack in the same district killed 87.
