Seventy people are confirmed dead, and scores more injured, after two small stoves exploded inside a packed train in Pakistan.
The explosion caused a fire that spread rapidly, prompting many to jump off the moving train. Most fatalities occurred because of this.
Passengers often bring their own cooking appliances onto trains, to save money. The practice, though banned by safety regulations, often goes undetected in overcrowded carriages and rules are routinely ignored or overlooked by officials, sometimes with tragic consequences.
