Australia’s Prime Minister has urged world leaders that the international community must do ‘all we can to understand what happened’ regarding the outbreak of Covid-19.
Speaking to the United Nations General Assembly, Scott Morrison repeated his demands from earlier in the year calling for an inquiry into how the virus reached humans in China, Reuters reports. He told the Assembly, which was held in New York though mostly staged digitally, that there was a ‘clear mandate’ to investigate the virus which ‘has inflicted a calamity on our world and its peoples’.
When Morrison led calls for an inquiry several months ago, China retaliated with warnings of damaging trade agreements with Australia. Beijing have already slapped crippling tariffs on some Australian goods, including effectively blocking over 308 million USD worth of barley exports.
