Austria suspends use of AstraZeneca vax batch whilst 1million vaccines from same batch get distributed to 17 EU countries

We wrote earlier in the week about Austria suspending a batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine whilst they investigated the death of one nurse from a blood clot and severe illness of another nurse who also showed systems of a blood clot. Both nurses received an Astra Zeneca vaccine with the same batch number.
According to Breakingnews.ie the same AstraZeneca batch has been distributed to 17 EU countries. The batch comprised 1million doses.

However, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said there was no evidence so far linking AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine to illnesses in two people who received it in Austria.

The EMA said a quality defect is unlikely but the batch quality is being investigated.

The EMA made their statement before the Austrian investigation has concluded.

The World Health Organisation listed the AstraZeneca vaccine “for emergency use” in mid-February. AstraZeneca said they would fully support the Austrian investigation.
