Hewlett-Packard are planning to cut up to 30,000 jobs worldwide in its enterprise business due to falling demand for their products.

These cuts come after the 55,000 layoffs previously announced by the company’s chief executive Meg Whitman.

HP has around 4,000 employees based in Ireland working in manufacturing, research and development, customer software support, marketing, and sales and services.

The majority of employees are based in Leixlip, Co Kildare with other operations based in Galway and Dublin’s Swords.

The company indicated the cuts announced today will be a worldwide cut back and it is not yet known whether this will affect their Irish employees.

Though they were once labelled the biggest computer company in the world, HP has spent the last few years adjusting sales practice according to the falling demand for personal computers and the move to cloud computing.

The firm is planning to split into two in November, creating one company –  Hewlett Packard Enterprise which will focus on corporate hardware and services operations and another – HP Inc – to focus on its PC and printer businesses.
