Balbriggan boy (15) says the large knife gardai found in his backpack was just for “cutting fruit”

As we reported earlier, a 15-yr-old Balbriggan/Rush area boy claims that he was knocked unconscious by members of gardai during a struggle in the North County Dublin area on Sunday evening.

Gardai say that they were keeping an eye on some youths and doing their best to stop anti-social behaviour when they approached the boy to get off his bike to talk to them.

A struggle ensued and eventually gardai, after allegedly been bitten, got the upper hand and found a very large knife in the boy’s backpack.

The boy was arrested but released without charge after a girl, said to be his sister was heard screaming at gardai that they were “racist scumbags”. The video can be viewed below.

Locals who witnessed the ordeal say that the boy kept shouting that the knife was just to “cut fruit” and indeed a member of An Gardai told The Liberal that the boy’s reason for having such an extraordinary weapon in his backpack was for “cutting fruit”.

Not everyone believes it however with one local telling The Liberal:
“This anti-social behaviour has been going on for years. Why do you think the gardai were trying to stop these youngsters and question them in the first place. I highly doubt he’s carrying that huge knife in his backpack for cutting fruit, what’s wrong with a penknife! We all know the real truth”.
