Bangladesh government to introduce death penalty for rape cases

Governments around the world could take a page out of the Bangladesh government’s book after they’ve been praised for a verdict that matches the crime.

Bangladesh is set to introduce new laws that will see the death penalty being introduced for rape cases.

It is understood that the new laws unveiled by the Law Minister Anisul Huq will see rapists facing the death penalty if they are found guilty.

The move to introduce harsher sentences come as there has been a rise in sexual assault cases in the county in recent months.

Although current laws allow for life sentences for convicted rapists, it is believed that a call for more severe sentencing was highlighted in recent weeks following protests in the country.

It is reported that protests have grown after a sickening video was shared on social media showing eight men brutally stripping and raping a woman.

The new laws are expected to be passed by President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday.
