Bank of Ireland customers who got caught in a ‘smishing’ scam will receive refunds, according to the bank.
‘Smishing’ scams involve customers receiving a text or email message purporting to originate at Bank of Ireland. The message says that the customer’s account is compromised in some way, so the customer needs to ‘confirm’ their bank details. This leads to the scammer receiving this crucial information, which is used to withdraw money.
Scammers have been particularly active during the Covid-19 crisis.
