The 12 books were all written by white authors with the exception of two written by Alexandre Dumas, who is often cited as being black, as his grandmother was a slave of Afro-Caribbean ancestry.
The new covers of each book will employ five culturally diverse depictions of the key characters, however none of the diversified covers will feature white character.
